The Bobbleheads

To be fair, when John asked me to marry him, I knew what I was getting myself into. I was prepared to not only love and care for him in sickness and in health until death do us part but to also embrace his collection of bobbleheads.

John began collecting bobbleheads in high school and several new heads have been brought into the group over the years. Last night we went to the Ballpark in Arlington to pick up the newest member of  the collection, Elvis Andrus.

(John with the new bobblehead, wearing his Texas Rangers cap that my Mom asked David Murphy to sign during batting practice. She told him to write, "Sic 'em, John!")

(Spending some QT with the Newman family.)

Elvis' appearance brings the rapidly growing collection to 35. 3-5. You may wonder, "Where does one store 35 bobbleheads?"

Well, in John's bachelor days, he stored the bobbles above the cabinets in the kitchen. When I moved in, we made a lot of trips to Goodwill adjustments but removing the bobbleheads from their current location was something I could not do for three reasons. 1) What the heck are you supposed decorate with above kitchen cabinets?  2) I knew John's big heart would be broken if he had to put the bobbleheads in a closet. And 3) I'll admit that it's kinda a cool collection...

It's worth noting that John has collected every Texas Rangers' bobblehead and has picked up some other bobbleheads along the way like Dwight Schrute, George W. Bush, Big Tex and the Godfather.

But his favorite (after Michael Young, of course) happens to be the bobbleheads that his parents gave us last year as our wedding gift.

(You have to admit, they look a lot like us! How cool is that?!)

We'll let you know of the next time our collection grows.

P.S. John is really proud that I just referred to this as "our collection"....
