Cooking new recipes: Steak with whiskey cream sauce and burgundy mushrooms (V-Day dinner thanks to Pioneer Woman!), homemade pizza and a whole roasted chicken. (I certainly earned woman points when I removed it's insides as well. Yack. )

And that's what we've been up to lately!

Identity Crisis

Rosie is going through a one year life crisis.

You see, she's growing in grey/silver hair and it's making her hair mat together like no other.

So, when I took her to the groomer last week I said, "Do what you need to do with her hair, I'm tired of combing mats."

Famous last words.

When I picked her up, the sweet lady said, "Rosie's going to look a little different."

As you can gather, Rosie has shed about 5 pounds in hair and has gone from a black and tan to a silver and tan Yorkie. I can only imagine how hard it must be to lose all your hair and change hair colors in one day....

She was a little embarrassed the day or two following the big cut and would rub against the furniture and walls. Rosie actually stopped eating for a day and wouldn't follow me around the house like she normally does. I know, drama queen, right? I guess she's preparing me to deal with teenagers someday...

She's adjusting fine and so are we. I mean, who couldn't love this sweet face?

Snow Day #4: Part Two

Friday morning we woke up to this:

6 inches of glorious snow!

Literally. 

So we met up with our neighborhood friends at a local diner for some quality breakfast and conversation before heading to the park to play in the snow. (Pictures in earlier post)

 And when we came back, it was time to let Rosie really enjoy her first snow.

Who wants to go outside?!

Majestic. 

It practically covered her.

After being at our house for four straight days, I was ready for a change of scenery so we headed to FW to see my parents.

Biscuit didn't take off her pink snuggie for five days. 

Turns out, my parents wanted to get out of the house too so we headed to Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth to see the ESPN Superbowl broadcast. It was pretty awesome and made me really proud of my hometown. 

And that, my friends, was snow week 2K11.

Could it be that we have another snow day tomorrow?!

It's pretty great to wake up to six inches of snow, no work and a phone call from friends wanting to meet up for breakfast at the local diner!

Happy Favorite Day, David!

David's favorite day happens to be the first Wednesday in February. No, it's not necessarily Groundhog's Day. Or the beginning of Black History Month. Or Go Red month. (I think that's February, right?)

In fact, the first Wednesday in February is ALWAYS National Signing Day. That's as in signing letters of intent to play college football for all my gals out there. ;)

And for David, a loyal Baylor fan, I suspect National Signing Day provides insight into what the upcoming Baylor football season will look like.

After signing 19 recruits yesterday, head coach Art Briles said, "I would like to look at it as the first victory of 2011 today with our signing class. I guess you could hear it anywhere you go across the country: we really filled a lot of needs. The thing that has really improved with us as our depth has gotten better our needs have diminished a little bit. So what we have got to be is very selective with the guys that we brought on campus that are going to be future Baylor Bears."

 Looks like another hopeful season for Baylor football. Which means more tailgates and time with family in friends at Floyd Casey Stadium. Sic 'em Bears!

Snow Day(s)

Yesterday John and I woke up to both find via email that our respective offices had closed due to inclement weather. And thus began our first snow day together!

(We were both SHOCKED when we realized work was canceled. But trust me, the white you see in the picture is all ice. Very treacherous. ;))

So we started off the day with a bowl of oatmeal lots of coffee and watched the movie, "Best in Show." We then lounged a little longer and I made some banana bread while John took Rosie outside.

It was then time for a little work out before we ate grilled cheese and grapefruit for lunch and then ventured out to a nearby Starbucks later in the afternoon. We sat there enjoying lattes and reading books until the store announced they were closing early. Boo.

We headed home and played Scrabble, then Wii Golf before making black bean soup and guacamole tostadas for dinner. As we were cleaning up, I was notified that my office would be closed for a SECOND day and John's would not open until 10AM. Sweet stuff. We stayed up late watching "Insomnia" and enjoying the end of a pretty perfect snow day together.

P.S. It's currently 10:30 AM on Melissa's Snow Day: Round 2 and I'm getting a little antsy. I may try venturing out later today. All of this extra free time is somewhat overwhelming...

A Visitor!

Last weekend John and I hosted our first overnight guest, Rebekah!  It was her first trip up to Dallas to see our new digs and a good excuse to hang out and catch up!

We cooked dinner at our place Friday night and woke up Saturday to try this gem in Deep Ellum:

The All Good Cafe, as seen on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and known for their peppered bacon. It was delicious and brought very Austin-y vibes all the way to Dallas.

Afterward we stopped at John's office to hang some pictures and frames and then Rebekah and I treated ourselves to a relaxing manicure before doing a little shopping. Saturday night we all made our first visit to the Bishop Arts District, a community undergoing revitalization in Oak Cliff.

It's got lots of great stores, restaurants and culture all within a few square blocks. We stopped for drinks at Tillman's first and then sat down at Hattie's, a low-country cooking inspired restaurant. I ordered shrimp and goat cheese grits and was probably one of the better meals I've ever had.

(Y'all you can google image just about anything these days.....so amazing!)

Sunday morning Rebekah joined us at a church we've been visiting and thanks to the great weather, we had a lovely lunch outside before she headed back down 35 toward Austin.

We're looking forward to her  next visit (or perhaps we'll get away to Austin first) and welcoming any other visitors wandering through Dallas!
