When I was five years old, I asked Santa Clause for a baby sister. When I did not receive that on Christmas Day, my grandmother suggested we pray for a baby sister. And lo and behold, the Lord provided a baby sister, whom we named Megan Alisabeth. And I became big sister Melissa. I took this responsibility very seriously.
I vividly remember the day Megan was born. Nana and I played Crazy Eights and Old Maid as we waited in the hospital. I also wore this sweet outfit from Mervyn's--the pants were stirrups, thank you.
I LOVED getting to play, talk and watch Megan. I also remember going into her room before I went to bed at night to make sure she was sleeping.
I even begged my Mom to bring Megan to school for show and tell in first grade. I was a very proud sister.
I think this was Megan's first birthday. P.S. I have already resolved that any child of mine will never have to suffer from bad bangs...
As Megan got older, I taught her how to play with Barbies, how to be extra careful with my American Girl dolls and how to play hide and seek. We played these games and more with our cousins, Mindy and Amy who lived next door to us.
In Alaska circa 2000.
Over the years, Megan has become a beautiful, smart, funny, and inspiring lady. She still makes me proud and along the way, I've realized she's taught me as much as I've taught her.
Megan has become one of my best friends and I've come to realize how much the Lord blessed me when he gave me my baby sister. I've had so many great memories with her growing up, but I also know that we'll be making even more memories together as we get older. And that makes me very excited.
We go to celebrate Megan's 20th birthday Sunday at one of our favorite Fort Worth restaurants, Reata.
Complete with Megan's favorite Fiori cupcakes from Cupcake Cottage.
Happy Birthday, Megan! I love you!
