Things I'm Loving in Waco

The Heart of Texas Farmers Market. I picked up $8 worth of the freshest looking tomatoes, peaches and cantaloupes last Saturday. And I loved that there was about 30 other people supporting local farmers! Also, the Friday morning downtown Farmer's market on Austin Avenue and the peach truck on Sanger and     Lake Air.

Cameron Park. This year was the park's 100th anniversary and it's gone through over $9 million in renovations since 2008. It's perfect for picnics, walks, disc golf and biking. John and I took some barbecue and cards to the park one night last week and sat outside by the Brazos for two hours.

The Epicurean Chef. This restaurant prepares only healthy, organic, locally grown and gluten-free foods. And it's suprisingly delicious. On Fridays, you can stop by their all-you-can-eat buffet and for $7 dollars sample all sorts of casseroles, salads, breads, hummus and my favorite, krispy kale. They even have a 1/2 off freezer section where you can buy some of her frozen casseroles and dishes.

Balcones Baby Blue Whiskey. It's an organic blue corn whiskey distilled  in Waco that's already received several national awards. I'm not a whiskey drinker but my Dad and John are so when I read an article about this in the Waco Trib a few months ago, I immediately thought of them. John received a bottle of it for passing the bar exam and we got my Dad a bottle for Father's Day. Both agree it has a smooth taste. I don't know what that means, but I think it's cool that it's from Waco.

Brazos Nights concert series. A few years ago the city of Waco finally realized a great way to build community and bring people back downtown was to offer free concerts by the Suspension Bridge, overlooking the Brazos. Once a month, people pack into the park, bring blankets, dinner, chairs and drinks and listen to music. It's really fun and we enjoyed going last month and look forward to going again this month.

Slippery Minnow restaurant. I love outdoor dining. And I love dining outside and overlooking some type of water. So when the Lake Waco marina opened a bar and grill on the water, I couldn't wait to give it a try. The food is just decent, but it's a great place to go and watch the sunset, listen to live music and watch the boats come in.

Oh Waco....could it be I'm growing fond of you?!
